California Schools.

This Blog is in reference to an article published in the LA Times.

The education offered at American Indian Charter school is so proficient, not only because of their commitment to excellence, but also to their commitment to traditional principles and concepts. By teaching students time management, while at the same time providing a “liberal arts” education which covers all areas of study, American Indian is participating in the way American Education should. As stated in the original article, American Indian has no lab equipment, televisions, or computers in the classrooms. This is proof that money does not make for better education. American Indian Charter is a shining school on a hill for the rest of California to look at and realize that what is necessary for education is not exorbitant amounts of money, but simply discipline, vision, and conservative principles. By hiring teachers “who believe in free market capitalism” and not “multicultural specialists, ultra liberal zealots and college-tainted oppression liberators,” the school lends itself to true traditional education. The orderly and masterful education practiced at American Indian should be an example not only for other schools in California, but also for the bureaucrats in Sacramento. Stop draining money into public schools which produce mediocre results, and begin saving the taxpayer money.

Virtue necessary for happiness.

"There exists in the economy and course of nature, an indissoluble union between virtue and happiness; between duty and advantage; between the genuine maxims of an honest and magnanimous policy, and the solid rewards of public prosperity and felicity; since we ought to be no less persuaded that the propitious smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right which Heaven itself has ordained."

George Washington, First Inaugural Address.

We have lost sight of what Washington said. In order for man to be happy, he needs to first be virtuous. In this case, very Aristotelian, Washington states that the happy life is the one connected with the ability to have and practice virtue. Also, Washington connected man's ability to be virtuous with his ability to be a citizen. According to Washington, without virtue, man loses the ability to be a citizen; he loses the ability to serve his country the way he is supposed to.

Traditionalism, and the conservative movement, are in need of this change above all else. If the political man was to be virtuous, then he would be the best man for fixing America's problems.

Help the virtuous man.

Oliver Dyer.

Reporter Oliver Dyer wrote this in 1848, addressing the state of politics in the nation.

"It is, perhaps, needless to say that when I emerged from the seething turmoil and trickery of the convention, my views of public men and their motives had undergone a change. I then for the first time realized the truth what I had been taught by the Greek historian, that under the instigation of selfishness and the contentions of rivalry, men identify what is advantageous with what is honorable and what is expedient with what is just, and while simulating sentiments of friendship, maintain an attitude of perfidious antagonism, that the love of power, originating in avarice and ambition and the party spirit which is engendered by them when men are fairly embarked in a contest, render the tie of party stronger than the tie of patriotism or of religion, the seal of good faith being not love of country, or the divine law, but fellowship in schemes of spoliation, and self-aggrandizement."

Seems as though politics have not changed much since 1848. Help me change them!
